The festival was firstly held in 2011 and differently from other coffee festival, Banda Aceh Coffee Festival is focusing more on the celebration of traditional way in drinking coffee than trade show. Many coffee shops and cafe are participating in the event.
“Aceh and especially Banda Aceh, is very typical to coffee-drinking tradition, despite the fact that Banda Aceh is not a coffee-producing region,” said Head of Banda Aceh Tourism and Culture Agency, Teuku Samsuar in a press conference at Blang Padang Coffee, Tuesday, November 11.
Teuku Samsuar said that the theme for this year will be ‘Celebration of Coffee Tradition’.
There will be 40 booths representing traditional and machine coffee, coffee farmer cooperatives, coffee powder producers, community of coffee makers and coffee fans, as well as home and large-scale coffee entrepreneur.
The festival will be serving special traditional coffee recipe such as Kopi Kocok Telur Bebek, Kopi Khop Khas Meulaboh, Sanger, Kopi Tubruk, and Kopi Cokelat Saring. Local cafe from Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Bireun, dan Dataran Tinggi Gayo are also set to serve their unique coffee mix.
According to Teuku Samsuar, visitors will be able to buy cofee of their choice in the Coffee Market where signature products will be displayed. Live music performance featuring national artists is promised to give more excitement in the festival.
Those who wish to try their hands on coffee mixing can join the free workshop for a beginner barista. A lot more entertaining and knowledge-enhancing programs such as demonstration by roaster and professional cupper is ready to greet visitors.
