Governor’s Climate and Forest 2010 Meeting held in Aceh

Banda Aceh – A number of state representatives are attending the Governors’ Climate and Forest Taskforce 2010 meeting held at the Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh, today.

GCF Taskforce 2010 steering committee member, Husaini Samaun said the event will last until May 21. “Representatives from member countries as well as observer countries have come to Aceh to attend the event,” he said.

GCF members include Indonesia (the provinces of Aceh, Papua, Central Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan), Brazil (Mato Grosso, Amazonias, Para, Amappa, and Acre) and the United States (Illinois, Wisconsin, and California). Observer countries are Mexico, Nigeria, Canada, Liberia, and Malaysia.

According to Husaini, the GCF Taskforce 2010 meeting is very important in the effort to reduce industry-induced carbon emission by preserving forests. This is normally called the Reduced Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD).

The GCF Taskforce Meeting is expected to produce forest preservation policies and to guarantee people’s right through REDD implementation in member countries.(ADI WARSIDI)
