Indonesian Plans to Build Gas Interconnection Pipeline from Aceh to Java

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif says that the Indonesian Government will immediately begun the construction of the Dumai-Sei Mangke natural gas pipeline which will be built for 400 kilometers (km) long. The total fund of the project reportedly reached IDR 6.6 trillion and aimed to finished its construction in 2027.

The Dumai-Sei Mengkei natural gas pipeline will distribute the potential gas from Agung and Andaman Working Areas (WK) in Aceh to be utilized in Java and Sumatra.

Minister Arifin says the if the project is done then the natural gas pipeline will be linked from Aceh to East Java as Cirebon-Semarang natural gas pipeline Phase I has been completed in 2023 and its Phase II will be completed in 2025.

The construction of the natural gas pipeline transmission is part of National Strategic Project (PSN) which was regulated in Presidential Decree Number 109 of 2020 concerning the Third Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 3 of 2016 concerning the Acceleration of PSN Implementation.

“This is what will ease us in the future, and it will be affordable for the community, along with competitive price in the market which could be much cheaper than LPG,” explains Arifin on Monday (1/8/2024).
