Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan highlighted that Aceh’s new renewable energy (EBT) potential reached 27.7 MW.
Hence, Pandjaitan envisaged the establishment of a green industrial park in Indonesia’s westernmost province for the development of new renewable energy.
The minister made the statement during a coordination meeting on Aceh Province’s infrastructure development on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by his office on Wednesday.
Aceh’s EBT potential can be optimized to reach 25.31 GW comprising 1.2 GW of geothermal energy, 16.4 GW of solar energy, 6.6 GW of hydro energy, 0.89 GW of wind energy, and 0.22 GW of bioenergy.
The green industrial park can be built at the Ladong Industrial Estate (KI) that is expected to become a magnet to boost the economy in Aceh.
“My suggestion is to coordinate with the minister of energy and mineral resources and the minister of industry to create an Aceh Green Industrial Park. Hence, our direction is there, as we have vast EBT potential,” he stated.
Discussions at the coordination meeting also covered the progress in development of the Arun Lhokseumawe Special Economic Zone (KEK) whose activities comprised development of the energy industry, petrochemical industry, palm oil processing industry, and logistics that will involve 40 thousand people by 2027.
The meeting also discussed investment in the Banyak Islands, Singkil District. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will invest around US$500 million in the island.
To support this investment, qualified infrastructure development is deemed necessary, such as the establishment of Singkil Port and Syekh Hamzah Fansyuri Airport.
“I am certain that this will significantly contribute to Aceh’s economy,” he stated.
