PT PLN (Persero) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gayo Lues Regency Government, Aceh, regarding the utilization of the assets of the Hydro Micro Power Plant (PLTMH) and the development of the electricity sector implemented in Banda Aceh.
PLN’s Director of Transmission and System Planning, Evy Haryadi, welcomed this collaboration as a form of cross-sectoral synergy as well as efforts to accelerate the energy transition to achieve Net Zero Emissions.
“We welcome the initiative to build this hydro power plant and state that interested investors will be greeted with open arms, of course by paying attention to environmental sustainability, including the watershed zone (DAS),” said Evy, Monday, June 2.
General Manager of PLN Aceh’s Main Distribution Unit (UID), Mundhakir, said that this MoU is expected to be a pilot project for the development of Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA), PLTMH, and Piko Hidro Power Plants (PLTPH) in Indonesia. So far, the use of hydro energy in Aceh has reached 34.12 megawatts (MW) out of a total potential of 3,619 MW.
Gayo Lues Regency, especially the Blangkejeren area, has 16 potential locations for the development of PLTMH. Of these, three priority locations to be developed are PLTMH Aih Selah, Aih Nuso, and Nengar II,” said Mundhakir.
This MoU is a strategic step in optimizing local government-owned assets, reducing dependence on fuel oil, increasing local energy independence, and reducing carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, Gayo Lues Regent, Suhaidi, expressed high hopes that his region will be a priority in developing national electricity. He mentioned that Gayo Lues has three watersheds with great potential and natural resources that have not been utilized optimally.
“Local governments are opening the door wide for investors because the use of these resources is very important to increase Regional Original Income and community welfare,” concluded Suhaidi.
